They gave you God

They gave you God, but you were already God given

They gave you God, but you were already God given
A blessing unto itself from the universe.

And even then, to lay claim
on your soul
didn't seem one bit sacrilegious
forcing you to kneel, pray
and say you're religious.

They could not bear your potential
so they kept you down.
Told you you weren't good enough
and took away your crown.

Looking in the mirror,
you have a melt-down.
That colour you see,
somehow doesn't seem right.

But no one told you,
Your existence only exists in reference to a foreign kind of perfection

How can it be, that this precious
in all her beauty and charm
doesn't feel alright,
despite,
that she's downright
magnificent, gracious
sufficient and tenacious.

She's forgotten her birth right.

But no one told her -

Her existence only exists in reference to a foreign kind of perfection.

They gave you God, but you were already God given
